If you could find an inverted cone wide angle bulb, that might give you a more evenly dispersed light pattern. It would probably not seem as bright as the WLED 5-LED since the light is being dispersed indirectly rather that focused at your eyes, but it would probably lessen the chance of having hot spots. Of course, depending on the layout of the pods, the WLED 5-LED may be just as good or better than an inverted cone design. Without seeing how it works, I can't really say for sure.
